New CPD course launched to support GPs nationwide in strengthening concussion care

Connectivity Traumatic Brain Injury Australia (Connectivity) launches free online education module to support GPs with the latest concussion assessment, diagnosis and management guidance.

Connectivity has launched a new GP-focused online CPD course to support a consistent approach to concussion care nationwide.

The self-paced course, ‘Concussion: Assessment, Diagnosis and Management’, provides GPs with the knowledge and tools required to better assess concussion, understand recovery pathways and support patients throughout their recovery journey.

Supported by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), the course provides GPs with practical, evidence-based education aligned with the latest ANZ Concussion Guidelines. GPs can enrol for free and earn 2.5 RACGP and ACRRM educational CPD hours upon completion.

Addressing a complex and often misunderstood injury

Concussion affects approximately 180,000 Australians each year and is one of the most common forms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Concussion can have a significant impact on individuals, families and communities, but it can be challenging to identify and manage.

As many people experiencing concussion first present to primary care, GPs play an important role in recognising symptoms, providing appropriate advice and supporting recovery.

Connectivity’s new course has been developed to help translate the ANZ Concussion Guidelines into practical clinical application, supporting GPs with accessible education that can be applied in everyday practice.

Building confidence in concussion assessment and management

The online course explores key areas of concussion care, including:

  • Understanding concussion mechanisms, symptoms and recovery patterns
  • Approaches to concussion assessment and diagnosis
  • Recognising red flags and persisting symptoms
  • Evidence-informed management strategies
  • Return-to-activity planning
  • Identifying when multidisciplinary or specialist care may be required
  • Factors that may influence recovery and longer-term symptoms.

Delivered through a combination of video, written content, interactive activities and lived-experience perspectives, the course provides flexible, self-paced learning designed to fit within busy work schedules.

Supporting better outcomes through education

Through this initiative, Connectivity is helping ensure GPs nationwide have access to current concussion education and guidance.

Concussion: Assessment, Diagnosis and Management for GPs is available now.
